Who needs IV injections at home?

  • Home IV injections for patients who cannot visit a clinic.

Patients discharged after surgery, wound infections, or acute infections are often sent home on intravenous antibiotics for 5–10 days. IV antibiotics administered at home in Mumbai by a trained nurse eliminates daily hospital visits, reduces infection risk, and allows faster recovery in comfort. Our nurses are placed for post-op antibiotic courses within hours of hospital discharge.

Outpatient chemotherapy for stable cancer patients is increasingly delivered at home in India — reducing hospital congestion and improving quality of life during treatment. A trained IV nurse at home administers chemotherapy under oncologist supervision, monitors for infusion reactions, and manages the IV line with strict asepsis. Families in Mumbai and Thane managing chemotherapy at home benefit from the clinical reassurance and rapid escalation capability of a trained nurse present during treatment.

Patients with severe malnutrition, post-major surgery, or conditions affecting oral intake are sometimes prescribed total parenteral nutrition (TPN) — a complex, long-term IV therapy requiring trained nursing support and meticulous infection control. A home IV nurse in Mumbai coordinating with your doctor ensures TPN is administered correctly and IV line complications are caught early.

Patients discharged from intensive care still needing IV access for fluids, antibiotics, or medications often transition home earlier — reducing cost and allowing family presence during recovery. A trained home IV nurse manages the continued IV therapy, monitors the line daily for infection risk, and ensures medications are infused at the correct rate.

Some patients face recurring or long-term IV treatment needs — dialysis patients needing IV supplementation, immunocompromised patients on long-term IV immunoglobulin (IVIG), or patients with chronic infections on prolonged IV antibiotics. HospIt's monthly IV nursing packages provide consistent, professionally supervised home-based care spanning weeks or months without requiring travel or managing clinical risks alone.

Essential safety for home IV therapy

Fast, simple, and hassle-free — get your baby care products delivered in just four easy steps.

Keep the site clean and protected

The IV insertion site must be kept clean and dry. The sterile transparent dressing should not be picked at or handled unnecessarily. Patients should bathe carefully without submerging the IV arm in water.

Inspect the site daily

Between visits, the caregiver should watch for redness, warmth, swelling, pus, or if the dressing becomes loose. Any of these signs suggests infection and must be reported to the nurse or doctor immediately.

Prevent line clotting

For patients with IV lines not in continuous use, the nurse flushes the line with saline during each visit to prevent blood clotting. A clotted line becomes blocked; regular flushing keeps the line patent.

Report fever or unusual symptoms immediately

If the patient develops fever, chills, or signs of infection around the IV site, contact the nurse or doctor immediately. Do not wait for the next scheduled visit if there are signs of line infection or failure.
